Keyboard replacement for the XPS L502X... Need help please...

I live in Turkey and there are no signs as to the release of the new XPS L502X here; there's no trace of an upcoming release of it neither on the Turkish Dell site, nor the local distributors have any urgent plans for bringing this machine overseas...

I'm seriously considering purchasing a self-configured L502X from the US Dell site, have it delivered to a friend of mine who lives in the US and will be coming this way next month. But there are two serious matters that I have to sort out before I can pull the trigger.

1. I will need a Turkish keyboard.

1a. Would it be possible to have Dell install a Turkish keyboard on my laptop before or after I place my order?

1b. If it's not possible to do so, then is there an outside source (a warehouse or whatever) where I could order a Turkish keyboard that is specifically made for L502X model? Or is there a site where I can have a custom Turkish keyboard made for the L502X?

2. If I choose to go with the online purchase of the item, I believe the warranty will only be functional in the US. That means I will not be able to have free service locally; I will have to pay for the service... Do you think it would be unwise to ignore the warranty becoming void locally and go ahead with the purchase?

Thanks in advance for your replies...

No idea how it works in the US, but EU orders can be configured with any keyboard and OS language you like...they don't even have to match...my XPS15 has not the same keyboard and OS language.

Yes, this looks true, but if you buy in US you receive a XPS15 L502X that has island keyboard, if in your country not exist new XPS15 L502X yet, but only old version L501X then maybe doesn't exist a island Turkish keyboard version to make replace.

Could you point me to the link where you have bought yours from?

I found this site when I seacrhed for "Dell Europe" on google.

Dell EMEA | Dell Dell EMEA

But how do you get to the point where you managed to select a keyboard layout specific to your country?

So you called Dell-Germany and ordered your laptop via phone and had the keyboard of your choice installed, right?

I would really appreciate it if you could give me that phone number for Germany. And if that is possible in Germany, I am hopeful it could happen in the USA, too. Maybe I should call Dell-USA and see if I can get the same result for myself. But what phone number should I call in the USA to place an order by phone?

EDIT: Well, I did call Dell USA and I was told there's no Turkish keyboard available for L502X.

Now I'll try reaching Dell Germany by phone.

They have a toll free number 0800 533 55 40 04 but it can only be called from inside Germany from a land phone.

Surely there's a Dell phone number in Turkey?

I would hold off buying via the US, if you get any problems later you'll regret having to be without your machine for weeks at a time never mind the potential repeat customs problems.

If there's no number in Turkey you could ring the UK numbers, at least they're in Europe.

http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php

Enter Dell in the search box and the UK country code is +44, don't ring the 0844 or 0847 type number they're not for International use, instead look for the 01344 type number. The +353 numbers are in Ireland but many are now not used since Dell moved production to Poland.

Good Luck

I cannot seem to call that number, yes... I wanted to give Dell Germany a try even though I found out Dell USA cannot have a Turkish keyboard installed on the laptops, because currently about 3 million Turks live in Germany.

The L502X I configured on the Dell USA site totals up to 1500 $. I and a few others estimate the price of the same machine to be about 3000-4000 TL in Turkey, which equals to 2000-2500 $. So I thought the price difference would make it up to having no local warranty, but I'm still undecided on that...

v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

Notes for v1035 said the issue with HDMI ports not being recognized was eliminated so I d/l'd & installed. Turns out to be a BIG mistake, i should have stayed with v1032.

Picture now looks like 480 vs 1080, out of focus or dull or blurry or like a bit of vaseline was smeared on the camera lens, it's darker, flesh looks like melted wax, lines get jaggy and dark images during scene transitions tend to become multi-color pixellated. Looks like a filter got narrowed or amplifiers quit or scan lines arent being processed. You know that test picture in the menu for troubleshooting purposes? Well that's how good my satellite system looked in regular mode, never mind how crazy good it looked like in HD mode.

Tech support said no way to revert to a previous Firmware version, maybe adjust the contract.

UNACCEPTABLE!

He said wait 24-72 hrs but i'm posting here now hoping to get some exposure because barring some miracle i don't see a speedy resolution to this.

My suggestions to them were to:
- create new firmware which emulates exactly 1032; don't care if it's just for me or post it on the Samsung website, call it v1036
- create something which allows installing old version firmware, why the heck not??
- replace the whole TV from the same store I bought it from because the picture in batch of TV's out of the box was PERFECT
- NOT an option is to replace the mobo. Already tried that 2 weeks before 1035 came out and they installed some ancient version board with v1020 chips on it, the video was just as bad; I insisted the original board be reinstalled because the tech didn't ship it back yet and BOOM the picture was restored to it's former PERFECTION! i have to catch myself from watching commercials because they even looked so gooood.

I may seem a bit crazy about this but I spent a lotta cash like everyone else to buy this great at the time TV and other box upgrades. The picture was to die for and now i am very very sad happy

Lets go Samsung make us happy!

Reply 1 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

How did you download the firmware upgrade? Via USB or via Internet connection?

Reply 2 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

Downloaded both ways: from 1027 to 1032 via USB and from 1032 to 1035 via Online

Reply 3 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

Because the TVs Software will, "and don't ask me why." Not let you revert back to a time where everything was working great.

I know it is compleetly stupid, and this option Should be surely included, So if anything goes worng then you atleast have the option to put things right. But until then you are stuck with the reset option. Which in my opinion is useless we need a revert back option ASAP.

Reply 4 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

If the TV doesn't have enough ROM, RAM, EPROM or whatever to store 150MB then at least allow the revert/rollback functionality to work and you store the firmware on a USB stick or HDD and then choose where the TV can d/l from.

Service guy is coming this Friday the 4th and if it's not repairable to my satisfaction they'll replace the whole thing which i believe is completely unnecessary; just gimme a firmware rollback lol. biiiiiiiiiiiiig sigh

Reply 5 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

Called Samsung Star Service today after so being disappointed with the on-site tech. They are sending a different service contractor since there was no resolution from the other tech with his special magical calibrated eyeball diagnostic equipment happy

At this point I am happy with Samsung attempting to resolve this issue, crossing my fingers!

SAMSUNG Sucks as a TV company

Ok, So For the Record I have the: Samsung PN50C8000 50-Inch 1080p 3D Plasma HDTV

Now when I bought this baby I got it from Amazon's warehouse deal paid like $1595 for it.. (the problems started right out the door, remote and extra plug and back cover for mounting on wall was for the wrong model -and Amazon refuse to send me the right one -they just said you can send it back but from warehouse you get what you get...(Great)-then can someone tell me why the hell do you write in the warehouse description -"TV comes with all it's original accessories- everything in Brand new condition...?"

Ok, I know this is about firmware, I'm sorry I get upset when I think about this...

So I get my TV and start to watch it.. OMG!! OMG!! oh my God.. the picture quality is to die for.. I'm watching a movie I had on my USB stick and it's unreal.. The TV just came already calibrated or something because every mode: Dynamic, Standard, Relax, Movie, CAL-NIGHT, CAL-DAY.. all set to perfection..

I was in heaven... I just could not believe how good it looked, I was so happy I went with the plasma.. yes there was some reflection from sunlight and I didn't have the right remote, but OMG picture was stunning, so who cares... I watched TV all day that day.. I just could not believe it.

Then I hooked up internet to it, plugged it in since I had enough cable coming from the router to add the TV.. and guess what I saw, "oh there is a firmware update" - ok did it, and everything was fine... it was like 1013 or 15 or something earlier.. no problem, was suppose to be fixing the Apps, make them load faster or something..

first one I did no problem.. thought ok if they are making the TV better why not..

Then came the Firmware before This one 1020 or right before that one.. I DID THAT ONE AND WOW...

THE TV LOOKED LIKE A FUZZY POS..(Piece of S___) yeah... I could not believe it..

I called Samsung 911 right away, and of course they were absolutely no help what so ever..("can I please just go back to the firmware before this when My TV was fine", no sir these are not reversible. (-wow you think you could have told me that before like right before it installs) They just kept telling me stupid things to do like reset the menu or try to adjust contrast -(I wanted to die) I have never been so upset in my whole life like this at a Company..

-They basically reached into my TV from the internet and took my Porsche and turned it into a FU_K__ Hyundai through the dam firmware update...

After calling them everyday for like 5 days straight in complete pain from the horror of what they did to my TV... (some rep told me that firmware was not suppose to go out, because it messing up whatever TV settings you had on the TV) GREAT, thanks Samsung..(for not testing the S___ before putting it out) DAM YOU GUYS ROCK! NOT!!!

All they keep telling me is you can send it back- LoL -Never-mind I just mounted to the wall myself and it was no where near easy, now just take it down and try my luck at sending it back to you idiots who couldn't test a firmware update before putting it out, and of course pay to ship it (no refund on shipping) and hope I get my money back for the TV.. Ha... Ha.. (so basically trust SAMSUNG to do the right thing after you been doing me dirty for a whole week) NO THANKS!! CRACK HEADS!

So today I have the firmware right before 1035 and of course it messed up other things like the motion Judder Canceller no longer works, it's a complete joke..

I tried to adjust the setting best I could but the TV is so far from the beauty it was when I got it, that it could almost make you want to cry..

I Officially hate SAMSUNG I mean I hate them... I go to the store and everyone I see I try to convince them to NOT BUY A SAMSUNG, and if you must whatever you do, don't do A FIRMWARE UPDATE on your TV...

It's 2011 and the idiots at samsung can make an App store for your TV but couldn't have the common sense to make an app that Saves your TV settings...

So after you spend days getting the perfect picture, or if your lucky (and it comes adjusted perfect like mine did) you have no way to save those settings.. So in-case of a horror like this, a stupid firmware update you can't- at least go back to the picture settings you had..

Thanks Samsung for killing my HDTV dreams - I saved up for a long time to buy my first HDTV and you turned it into a Fu_k___ Nightmare..

Again I HATE YOU SAMSUNG, I Seriously HATE YOU.

PEOPLE DON'T DO FIRMWARE UPDATES, -SAMSUNG firmware updates are like opening the back of your TV up and trusting a 2 year old with a screwdriver to adjust your Picture setting on the Motherboard...

The Dumbest thing you could possible do.. A trained monkey could do a better job then the person Samsung has working on the firmware updates.. (yeah it's most likely one person because I can't see how a team of people would mess up firmwares so bad)

Reply 7 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

Wow Crazyglues you're having as much troubles as I am dealing with Samsung firmware engineers, best thing they could do is allow a rollback or to any previously installed firmware..it would cost peanuts to insall the equivalent of a flashdrive into this thing.

So, here's my latest fun and the scope of incompetency widens: TV repairguy #1 and his magic calibrated eyeballs says nothing wrong with the TV again after staring at it for awhile. I called Samsung again and told them to FIX this thing and send someone else hence a visit from a different TV repair company, let's call him repairguy #2.

#2 replaced the mainboard, no difference, then he replaced the video interface board and hmmmmmmmmmmm this is starting to look hopeful, picture was less blurry or fuzzy or whatever you call it (no amount of Menu adjustments fixed anything previous to this board). OK so now he put the original mainboard back and......drum roll.............
Backlighting came on but NO PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!! He put the original mainboard and video interface board back and ................NO PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Power supply board is allegedly flakey but he ordered another mainboard and another power supply board.

Parts count so far: 3 replacement mainboards (1 still to install), 1 replacement power supply boards (1 still to install), 1 replacement video interface board.

Power supply board is not in yet from California but at least the 3rd mainboard now looks to be identical to the original green board (others were blue and had earlier versions so what up with that??? prototypes????

IF this doesn't work TV is going back to Samsung; i'm surprised I let it go this far without just getting a new one.

I'll be b aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

Your idea for slution is required

Hi all,

I will start with describing the situation:
1) I have WiFi connection and local network installed.
2) I can connect my laptop (and other devices) via WiFi to the network and browse the local network as well as the internet.
3) I have two other desktops that are wired (connected via wire) to the network and works fine (can get to the internet)

The problem:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I conneced one additional desktop to my home network via WiFi and I can browse the local network but
I CANNOT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET
Do you have any idea what can be the problem?
(I already reinstalled the computer and restarted the wireless router)
Thanks for any idea....
Shai
Reply 1 : Your idea for slution is required
- Does it work wired? You only tell about wireless.
- What exactly is "reinstalling the computer"?
-] What happens if you try to "connect to the Internet" and how do you do that? For example, can you ping a website?
- What OS on this desktop? Windows 95? Linux? Speaking of Linux, does it work if you boot from a Linux Live disk?
- Now take that same uncooperative desktop to another location (friend or family). Does it work there wired? Wireless?
HDMI Problem
I just brought a HDMI lead so i could play my xbox on my HP Touchsmart 600-1210 which has a full 1080p HD Graphics card. So i plugged it in and found that the picture was a terrible 480p. I've looked through forums to try and find a solution, but failed.
I was just hoping someone could tell me how to get a full 1080p gaming experience out of cmy computer, which i thought would be a simple task after there being so muh adversity about it being an 1080p system.
PLEASE HELP!
No clue, probably only 1333.
Reply 6 : Stock RAM for xps17 L702x???????
Just wondering, assuming only 1333 is available for the i7-2720, what kind/brand of RAM is everyone getting? Any brands to avoid?
Anyone have any new info if 1600 is supported?
Reply 7 : Stock RAM for xps17 L702x???????
1600 isn't supported by the CPU.
Thanks!
I wanna get some 2x4GB sticks to replace the stock, but I'm a newbie about installing RAM, so I could I install something like 10666, or would only 10664 work?
Any particular brands that are better than others? Any configurations (2x2GB, 2x4GB, etc) that would work better?
Help needed
Hi,
I've just bought a Lenovo T401i and an OCZ Vertex 2 80gb SSD.
Using thinkvantage recovery, I backed up the files into my 16gb USB drive.
However, when I replace the thinkpad hard disk with the SSD and plugged in the USB boot drive, my computer could only recognize the SSD and said there was 'no bootable partition' within my usb. Why is that so and what should Ido?
Any help would be much appreciated. I have browsed around the forum but there seems to be a paucity of information related. Thanks again!
Larahir
Reply 1 : Help needed
Further information:
1. When Itried to boot, this message appeared:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
No bootable partition in table.
I have already changed the bios to boot USB FDD first...
Reply 2 : Help needed
Well, I'll take a very basic stab at your situation:
* No telling what happened to the USB backup at this point.
* You -do- have the old hard drive, righto? (Never discard original until the replacement is proven to work).
* You need to debug your backup on the USB, so -if- you have the old/original hard drive, swap that back in and boot it up; check things out.
* Your backup -to- the USB is likely not bootable, so you need another approach to what is, effectively, cloning the hard drive to your new SSD. I don't use thinkvantage recovery, but I'd guess it didn't copy over boot info to your usb gizmo drive. Backing up files is -not- the same thing as cloning a drive.
SO, all of the above said, I'd recommend you start over. If you have limited experience cloning new drives and setups, either get some local help or research this thoroughly on the web before starting again.
What -most- people do is something like this:
* Backup the original drive to somewhere; another drive connected via USB port is an example. A second (D:) partition on the original drive might be another location.
* Either hook up the new drive and restore the backup directly to the new drive, -or- boot up the restore software via a CD/DVD and have it run the restore to the new drive.
* Swap drives, boot & test the new drive.
The above process works best if you have capability for -both- new & old drives to be hooked up to your laptop at the same time. Otherwise, it gets more complicated.
If you did something like dispose of, wipe, or other misc. thing to render your original drive useless, then you're learning the hard way(as most experienced users do at some point) that you -never- scratch a drive or make too many changes at once. Doing so is asking for disaster...
Thanks for your help!
1.) yes, I do have my original hard drive (the one that came with the notebook). There is no valuabel information in there though, it's brand new. I only want to extract the windows from it and install it into my SSD
2.) There are some new developments. I borrowed a USB docking station from my friend and Iwas able to connect the SSD to it. So I have my Thinkpad (with stock HDD in it) connected to a dock with SSD on it. Is there a way that I can 'clone' the HDD into the SSD? What software would help? Would thinkvantage do the trick?
ThinkVantage utilities won't help you. You need something that you can create into a bootable CD.
Acronis TrueImage is a good solution, though you'll have to pay a few bucks for it; the Home version should do well enough. It may be that the 30-day trial edition will work too. Install it on a system other than your ThinkPad, create a bootable Rescue CD, and use it to clone one drive to the other.
I've used the free Clonezilla Live CD to do this too, but Clonezilla isn't nearly so user-friendly, and unfortunately, it won't clone from a bigger disk to a smaller one, even if the files will fit, so that's out in this case (I'm guessing your hard drive is probably larger than the SSD you're installing).
Reply 5 : Help needed
Isn't Thinkvantage Rescue and Recovery suppose to have a create bootable recovery DVD option?
Reply 6 : Help needed
Yes, but the OP decided to use a USB flash drive instead of CD+DVDs. I suspect something went awry during the procedure. (I gather that the USB drive must have been formatted as FAT32 instead of NTFS. But, in general, I'm not familiar with the USB scheme to offer any suggestions.) Even if the OP now wants to re-do the R&R onto CD+DVDs, ThinkVantage won't allow it because it may be done only once.
I've come across the Acronis TrueImage solution, as suggested by LoneWolf15, in various forum threads. I hope it will be helpful.
Reply 7 : Help needed
Hi, I have just downloaded the Acronic Truimage free trial solution. I tried to backup the new thinkpad onto the SSD directly and create a 'rescue disk' on a USB. But when I booted up arconis loader popped up but when Iclicked on 'recovery' in the procedure and tried to boot with the SSD alone, it did not work. Can anyone walk me through the back up and install procedure?
Samsung LCD TV LE37M87BD
Hello Everyone!
We live in Spain and we bought the above TV about 2 years ago.
We have a Communial Ariel to connect for the TV.
We bought the above TV which was supposedly Full HD. (That is what it had "Full HD2 on the paper fixed to the TV when we bought it.)
After the Digital TV came in, in place of analogue - we were never able to get HD transmisions. We thought that this was because the members of the community had opted for the cheaper ariel of a choice of two.
We also had a smaller TV which has just 'died' and is not repairable. So we have bought a Toshiba HD Ready TV in it's place.
Surprise, surprise, when automatically tuning it in, it receives HD with NO PROBLEM!
How on earth can I get HD programmes on the Samsung - which cost an arm and a leg when it was bought?!
Than ks for any input, in advance.
Reply 1 : Samsung LCD TV LE37M87BD
colinito,
I can only speak on US-based products. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer because I don't know what kind of tuner your specific model has.
If you'd like troubleshooting with your LE37M87BD, contact the Samsung customer service center in your region.
Reply 2 : Samsung LCD TV LE37M87BD
HD Tech,
Thanks, I will try to find someone to explain the technical details in Spanish - I'm OK for conversation, but technical matters are a little out of my range, which is why I came here!
Colinito.
Reply 3 : Samsung LCD TV LE37M87BD
Further to my question above,I spoke to the outlet where I bought the TV and they said that there is no reason why I can not get HD!! No advice was given just the Spanish 'shrug of the shoulders'!!
I have my ariel connected through a Samsung DVD/VCR combi. Could it be that this combi cannot receive digital signals and will not therefore allow the full HD TV to get the HD?
I have tried to tune the combi in to the digital signal and store the channels, but it only finds analogue signals. There is no instruction in the user manual to indicate how to find analogue and/or digital, just the 'search' option of automatic or manual.
Now, for some reason, I am unable to get the "Channel" selection in the set-up programme on the TV!
One problem after another!
Any further advice would be gratefully received!
Thank you,
Colinito
COOL! Thats one thing I was looking forward to seeing. The higher res better suits my needs. Too bad they cant fit 1920x1200 in a 15 inch. I'd be all over that! 1600x900 will probably be good enough though. Now I might pick one of these guys up before summer starts!
Holy crap! I should have waited for 6 months. got my x201 in Sep and look what I'm missing...!
anyways, I'm starting to wonder how the x series will look 5 years from now - that's when I'm getting my next one.
Replacing outside door handle
Hello,
I'm new
I did try a search before I posted this but didn't find anything that was updated. Maybe I missed it.
How do I replace the outside door handle for the rear passenger door on a 99?
I already got the door panel off. I see 1 bolt for the door handle but don't see a way to get to the other bolt. The manual I have doesn't even have it covered. Only the inside handle.
Any insight would help a great deal.
Thanks
Reply 1 : Replacing outside door handle
I got it.
FYI on the rear doors you have to unbolt the entire rear door lock system. The 3 screws that hold the latch in as well as the door lock rods. It's an assembly.
Once that is done access to the 2nd bolt is done through the door latch hole.
It's not hard per say but you need to pay attention to where everything goes as it's taken off.
My mom's 99 now has a new door handle. Although I broke the interior door handle in this process. So I have to replace that now. Easy 5 minutes as I already replaced the driver rear 1.
Reply 2 : Replacing outside door handle
Thanks for the info, I spent the good part of 30 minutes yesterday trying to figure a way to access that 2nd bolt. I was staring at the door latch assembly for a little while but didn't want to mess with it... Will try again next weekend.
Dell XPS 15 L501x and Pioneer hdmi1.3 Receiver?
Do I need a hdmi 1.4 cable to get the signal out of the XPS? I use an old hdmi cable to connect to my pioneer and I get no signal to the receiver. I've tried different cables and different inputs on the back of the receiver. No luck.
I connected the XPS directly to the projector and it worked. I really need it to work through the receiver. I've tried both dell tech support and Pioneer tech support, neither knew anything and were pretty useless.
I think the problem might be Extended display identification data, but I haven't researched this too much yet. Anyone have similar problems?
Reply 1 : Dell XPS 15 L501x and Pioneer hdmi1.3 Receiver?
Anyone? If anyone had any ideas, I really need them.
Reply 2 : Dell XPS 15 L501x and Pioneer hdmi1.3 Receiver?
No, the only thing 1.4 adds is HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC)
HDMI 1.3 cables can support all HDMI 1.4 features except for the HDMI Ethernet Channel.
Reply 3 : Dell XPS 15 L501x and Pioneer hdmi1.3 Receiver?
I might try reinstalling windows. Maybe there's something in windows that's blocking the hdmi signal to the Pioneer. I just can't think of anything else.
Reply 4 : Dell XPS 15 L501x and Pioneer hdmi1.3 Receiver?
I got my cable from amazon, and it's working fine(took a few trys to figure out what to do ;p)
Though I'm having problem with audio. Only game audios are being played on the TV(while my xps 14 plays it at the same time), but my music player's audio doesn't gets transfered over. Any thoughts?
Reply 5 : Dell XPS 15 L501x and Pioneer hdmi1.3 Receiver?
Nevermind, a restart on the music player fixed it. This is great, loving it(especially when my LG screen is being sent for a replacement, can't stand the stock 720 screen lol)
Samsung 50" Plasma HDMI problem
Three months out of Warranty!
I am only able to access one of my four HDMI inputs.( #3 )
If I connect ( plug in )another input signal to any other HDMI port the signal of what is showing on HDMI 3 is replicated there. Have tried different devices. Have quality leads.
Only using two inputs. 1. Tivo ( incl live TV ) and 2. WD HD LIVE. Have been working without fault for two months.
Thanks anyone.
Reply 1 : Samsung 50" Plasma HDMI problem
I should have added above that I updated the one available Samsung firmware upgrade back in February well before this problem arose.
I have downloaded it again but will install it again when all else fails I think.
The TV is a Samsung 50" Plasma PS50 B650 S1 FXXY.
Reply 2 : Samsung 50" Plasma HDMI problem
Powered down everything overnight ( unplugged at the wall. ) Unplugged all HDMI leads.
Next morning powered up TV with first lead in, then powered up the device. Worhked fine.
Then added the other devices powering them up after connected. All Good.
Found this fix on an earlier blog at least 12 months older. It is obviously a lock up that occurs from time to time on different TV units.
I'm interested to see if these prices we're seeing now are inflated pre-order prices and will come down to $1,350 - 1,400 range or if these are the actual prices.
iPhone : TV Out on Computer Monitor via DVI or VGA; How ?!
Hey, I need to connect my iPhone up to my 24" Computer Monitor either via DVI or VGA. Any suggestions ?
Reply 1 : iPhone : TV Out on Computer Monitor via DVI or VGA; How ?!
and the Component connector kit from Apple.
Take a look in the Apple Store, iPod, Cables and connectors
P
Reply 2 : iPhone : TV Out on Computer Monitor via DVI or VGA; How ?!
I dont have a HD TV ! That's the problem. So there's absolutely no solution for my problem: gettng my iPhone on my computer screen ? Is there not a similar cable as the composite/component cable in the Apple Store just with Dvi or Vga ? Thanks.
Reply 3 : iPhone : TV Out on Computer Monitor via DVI or VGA; How ?!
BTW, any movie that is on your iPhone can be seen on your computer screen just by connecting the iPhone to your computer and firing up iTunes.
P
Reply 4 : iPhone : TV Out on Computer Monitor via DVI or VGA; How ?!
No I didn't see one there, just i was wondering if a DVI or VGA solution ever existed, just to avoid having to start up my computer. Anyways doesn't matter. Thanks for your help & time.
Reply 5 : iPhone : TV Out on Computer Monitor via DVI or VGA; How ?!
Nice to see that you are out there complaining about what you see as insulting and rude comments about posts that are nearly 2 years old.
Perhaps you just reported what you did, in the way that you did, because you did not want to expose your lack of knowledge about the subject.
The OP, whom I note had no complaints about the information they were given, did not have an iPhone 4 so your comment about the iPhone 4 and the iPad VGA adapter were nonsensical.
How do I know that they didn't have one? Easy, the iPhone 4 was not released until June 24th, 2010 which was exactly 10 months after the thread starter.
And the silly iPad idea? Had anyone mentioned that in reply to the OP, everyone would have been wondering what an iPad was. That was not released until April 2010, 8 months after the thread starter.
P
Reply 6 : iPhone : TV Out on Computer Monitor via DVI or VGA; How ?!
It's out of date and time to close it.
Reply 7 : iPhone : TV Out on Computer Monitor via DVI or VGA; How ?!
If you bought the Apple iPod to TV kit (iPod connector to Y, Pb, and Pr video connectors), then got a Y, Pb, and Pr to DVI converter box, you might be able to do it. For sound, you could get a composite to 3.5MM plug adapter. I THINK that MIGHT work!
But, I bet it would be easier (and a lot cheaper) to just turn on the computer and use iTunes!
Reply 8 : iPhone : TV Out on Computer Monitor via DVI or VGA; How ?!
I had the same idea. But the converter boxes = $$$$$ so I might just have to give up trying to be lazy and boot up my Mac instead ! =P
Thanks for your help anyway.
reddish picture - Samsung PS42B451B2
My 1.5 years old Samsung Plasma 42" TV has started displaying a reddish picture. (high contrast - green colour looks brownish etc..) it was working fine till last week. This happens only when i select the source as Ext.(SKY Tv ) or TV. When I connect my laptop using dvi cable the colour is perfectly fine and even when I do a picture test (Samsung self diagnosis) it displays the colors correctly.
Can anyone advise on possible reasons?
Thanks for your help.
About to send my laptop for EasyServ Repair
I've had my laptop for exactly a year and four days and I figured since spring break is starting for me, now's the good time to send my laptop in for few repairs including:
1) White Pixels
2) ThinkLight not working
3) Wireless is kind of iffy
I read that people have removed their hard drive before they sent their laptop out. You think I could get away with this or would my problem require that I keep my hard drive in the laptop? Thanks.
Reply 1 : About to send my laptop for EasyServ Repair
white pixels are hardware, if thinklight is not working in the bios menu, then it would also be hardware. Wireless issues could be either hardware or software.
If it is software they just going to reinstall the OS, which you can do yourself. So just send the laptop in without the hdd, if they can't find the problems then just reinstall the OS on your laptop.
Reply 2 : About to send my laptop for EasyServ Repair
Thanks lead_org!
The way I see it, they can't properly diagnose without some kind of booting hard drive. I would back up your data and send it in with the drive. Not including a hard drive would be unwise as they won't be able to properly diagnose alot of possible issues. Trust me, I work as a bench technician, it helps alot to include the drive.
At depot, technicians will remove the user's hdd and put in their diagnostic hdd. The only thing they will do involving the user hdds are:
1. Reformatting and reinstalling the OS.
2. Diagnosing the hdd for any kind of hardware problems.
You may or may not have luck on #1, depending on how many white pixels there are. Fewer than a certain number is not considered defective. It's bull, but it's also the industry standard. Some manufacturers (Asus) offer a 0-stuck-pixel guarantee but none of the major manufacturers do for laptops (Dell and some others do offer a 0-stuck-pixel guarantee on their high-end monitors).
I would love to include my own hard drive so that they can diagnose the laptop the way it is but I currently can't back up my stuff at the moment and I'd rather not risk anything.
I spoke to the lady at Lenovo and she initially said the minimum was eight pixels . I eventually corrected her with three and I guess she didn't know about the new policy. The thing is that on my screen they're not single, tiny dots but more like a faint hazy cluster? Also there is like a half millimeter of white line when looking at the screen from above so that's considered more than one pixel right? lol
Reply 7 : About to send my laptop for EasyServ Repair
It's also have to do with where the pixel is. If it is in the dead center and you can argue it is functional, they might be able to replace for you.
Thanks in advance.
G73JH Wallpaper
Ok, I'm not that great at PS, still consider myself a noob. But I was bored today, and I am trying to get better in Photoshop. So with that said, I made a wallpaper for the G73 lovers.
Download the 1080p HERE
Download the 900p HERE
I hope everyone likes, but if y'all have some tips I'll be glad to hear them too. I tried to make it black to match the laptop a little, while making the words and logos silver due to the silver "Asus" on the back of the G73. Didn't come out as good as I hoped, but I think that's pretty much best I can do for now.
Edit:K, I've changed the pic around quite some since I first posted, so if you've downloaded it before, please re-download if you want the latest. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Edit2: Below is a bit less flashy if that's your taste. Click to enlarge/Save.
Reply 1 : G73JH Wallpaper
very nice indeed! a stealth wallpaper for a stealth laptop
Reply 2 : G73JH Wallpaper
Nice one!Downloading one for my G73!
+Rep for efforts.
Reply 3 : G73JH Wallpaper
It's a little to "busy" for my taste. The notebook pic and the ATI letters seem a little out of place. Otherwise it is nice, 100x better than I can do.
Reply 4 : G73JH Wallpaper
Thanks everyone for the comments.
And thanks Mandrake, I touched it up some more. Does it look better?
I fixed the borders around the laptop, got rid of the Asus logo that was inside the screen of the laptop and re-aligned/darkened the "ATI" part to hopefully make it more together.
Reply 5 : G73JH Wallpaper
It still looks like the ATI letters and laptop are sliding off of the wing.
Reply 6 : G73JH Wallpaper
Hmm, I'm not 100% sure I know what you mean. But I did try to match the angles as best I could, if I rotate the laptop anymore it begins to look weird. I dunno, maybe that's not what you mean.
Reply 7 : G73JH Wallpaper
I'm just saying it looks oddly placed but don't listen to me. I'm not an art expert.
Reply 8 : G73JH Wallpaper
LOL, ah gotcha. Yeah, I dont consider myself an art expert either. I just couldnt find any other spot that looks better, and I without the laptop the pic looks more duller.
But yeah, still appreciate your comment, I like the touched up much better now, and prob wouldnt have touched it up more if you didnt say anything, so .
Reply 9 : G73JH Wallpaper
+1 rep!! dkillone
I think you did an amazing job!! Is it possible for you to make a variant with the G73 laptop positioned about half an inch up off the wing but at the same time not touching the rear stabilizers.
Thank you.
I don't think Lenovo is using any particular parts that is exclusively made in Japan. This is one reason that most of the laptop company use more than one suppliers for their parts that is located in different geographical areas.
I don't think Lenovo is going to run out any Made In Japan parts, other than optical drive and possibly battery. But most of these parts are also produced by factories outside of Japan.
But i will be worried for the camera enthusiasts, as the some factory producing high end CMOS for DSLR are wiped out.
Yes. 80GB for the OS and apps, extra HD for additional storage. Best of both worlds.
TV and PVR BluRay Recorder
Hi Forum,
Anyone have a clue why my PS50C8000 Plasma don't interact with my BD-C8900 BluRay HDD recorder in terms of TV recording.
I find it pretty silly that I have to use the tv-guide on the "BD-C8900" to schedule recordings, when the tv has the exact same built-in TV-guide.
How come Samsung didn't think about ease of use. It's totally stupid not to be able just to press record on the TV remote and then the external PVR (BD-C8900) would start recording. The TV even recognises the BD-C8900 as a PVR recording device, when I click the "sources" on the TV remote.
Anyone else having these issues and is there a solution to this ?
Will the new dv7 be at bestbuy?
Just wondering as I plan to buy a laptop at the end of may and I'm limited to bestbuy as that's what I'll have payed off by that point, they currently have the dv7-4285dx which is ok but I'd hate to buy something that's already last gen
RF510-S02 HDMI Output Resolution?
I just bought this laptop but don't have a monitor with HDMI input or an HDTV. I'd like to use a 1080p monitor as a secondary monitor to create an expanded desktop. However, I'm not sure whether the laptop can output 1080p via the HDMI port since the native resolution is 720p. I can output at higher resolutions via the VGA port but would prefer a digital output. Anyone with this setup, or at least connected the laptop to a 1080p HDTV at full resolution? Thanks!
Reply 1 : RF510-S02 HDMI Output Resolution?
I don't have the same laptop, but I can output at a higher resolution than my laptop's screen via HDMI to my TV.
As long as you are not trying to display the same screen on both monitors, you should not be limited by resolution.
Anyone experience this?
FYI: At first I thought it may have been a recent Windows update, so I rolled it back a day or two...The freezing kept occuring. I then rolled it back a few more days....The freezing kept occuring. I then rolled it back about a week/10 days, and it kept freezing.
Reply 2 : Sony Vpcz1 (vpcz12ahx) Suddenly Freezing
One other thing I notice: When it does freeze, you'll hear the fan, which is normally quiet. It gets 'louder' to the point of being audible--distinctly louder...Probably quieter than other laptops, but loud for this one. If this laptop were a year or two old, I might think it had a bunch of gunk/dust built up in it, but this laptop is babied and always carried around, in my bag, away from dust/elements, et al.
Anyone?
Reply 3 : Sony Vpcz1 (vpcz12ahx) Suddenly Freezing
Another thing: When it freezes, it isn't a blue-screen. It simply freezes wherever it happens to be and nothing works to unfreeze it beyond holding onto the power button until it shuts off.
Mate, you need a live virus scanner, period.
From the sounds of it, freezing while browsing the net probably means your Z is being used as an external bot from some foreign server. It's being made to do junk processes from somewhere else, which is why you hear your fan speeding up. The thing with this particular thing is it stops your Z from interacting with you at all, focusing all hardware power on that bot-based process.
I ain't trying to scare you, but you are too optimistic if you think you are safe from viruses without a scanner, even if you go to 'safe' sites.
Don't bother installing a virus scanner now since the bot's probably stuck itself deep within the system. Virus scanners are only good at defense / as barriers. They are useless once the virus is actually in.
System restore has always been useless for me, for the exact reason you have mentioned above. That feature is really only designed for people who accidently delete important files from their machines.
I'll suggest you reinstall your windows from the recovery discs you made when you first got your machine; the chances are the bots probably gotten to the hidden recovery sector of your SSD as well.
Reply 5 : Sony Vpcz1 (vpcz12ahx) Suddenly Freezing
According to Windows Defener, my computer was clean.
Virus Scanner: Ran it from an external drive...
Clean.
The freezing is intermittent. Sometimes I can use it for an hour or two. Sometimes it freezes after 10 minutes.
Windows Defender has what we in the software / I.T. industry call DCST (Don't Catch Sh!t Technology). Don't use that.
Microsoft released Security Essentials, which is a alot more superior.
I'm assuming you only ran a scan after your machine started experiencing issues? Running off an external drive doesn't really offer any live protection. And like I say, virus scanners are only effective as barriers; once you are infected, they have a hard time finding anything.
You mentioned that the freezing is intermittent. Though I'm guessing the freezes only occur when you are online?
Regardless, reinstall Windows using the recovery disks; System Restore and related restore points all house the virus so that's pretty much useless now.
Hi, I have a VPC-Z128GG, and I successfully added a blu-ray drive "UJ-242", but I got a problem which is the eject button of the Z "on top of the keyboard" wont work with this drive, but it works when I use the default DVD dive.
Any ideas?
Reply 2 : Vaio VPC-Z128GG & Blu-ray Drive UJ-242 result.
yeah it works fine
Reply 3 : Vaio VPC-Z128GG & Blu-ray Drive UJ-242 result.
It's most likely a firmware issue.
You probably bought a UJ242a that has a firmware that the BIOS on the VPC-Z doesn't recognise (thus won't intergrate the BIOS shortcuts, ie the button).
I don't know if Sony has released a firmware update for their UJ242a BD writers yet. I THINK they have with their older UJ232a but that's a big if itself...
The other scenario is your new drive (or heaven forbid the Z itself) is locked onto UJ242a intended for VAIOs. Usually, optics drives parts for VAIOs have no company branding whatsoever, and next to their model code they have a long barcode next to the manufacture date. If you bought your drive from a ebayer and it was a 'Lenovo' or 'Dell' OEM part, then that probably explains why.
As for why the drive still works per se; it's a removable USB drive for all the Z cares. Only the BIOS related functions intended for specific firmware versions will not work.
Though technically, that 'eject' button on the keyboard merely links the 'eject' function that windows uses (go to COMPUTER, right click your drive and choose EJECT). Did you let Windows set the drive up automatically, and does it recognise that it is indeed a BD drive?
...Here's me hoping my UJ862as to UJ232a replacement will work...
You probably bought a UJ242a that has a firmware that the BIOS on the VPC-Z doesn't recognise (thus won't intergrate the BIOS shortcuts, ie the button).
Hi 5ushiMonster, sorry for the late replay, I did bought the drive from an ebay seller, but it was Mata OEM, so it's not branded to dell or Lenovo. And yes the Windows 7 recognize the drive as BD-writer.
I'm hopping to find a firmware that it works with my Z128GG, and I hope some one would post more information in this topic.
By the way, I read about someone have a Z which comes with UJ-242AS from sony, so there is a chance that someone here at this forum have it and hopefully have a firmware for it.
@levil1
Actually, I JUST bought a new UJ232a (for US$133). I have been planning my optics mod (along with a load of other hardware swaps) on my VGN-Z; only was barred from doing so with university finances racking up...
I'm using the stock UJ862AS, which I had replaced under warranty back in June this year. My old drive was running on 1.01 and this replaced one is running on 1.21
I'll tell you what my UJ232a is running when I get it later this week. I know for a fact that the one I just bought is designed for Sony machines (the labels on the drive shells are different for varying manufacturers).
You should note that the VPC-Z uses 9.5mm that differ in form factor to the ones that the VGN-Z was using. Basically, the drives from VGN-Zs will not be compatible with the VPC-Z in a structural sense (the bezel outlay is different between the 2x drives).
That said, from what I'm reading above the VPC-Z's BIOS might only allow certain drives with corresponding firmwares to work with the EJECT button on the keyboard. So, the EJECT button technically will NOT work unless eventservice (or some other process name I don't remember) is loaded in Windows. Which is one reason I understand you can't use the EJECT button while in BIOS or before an OS is loaded. In addition, I'm assuming the VPC-Z BIOS just simply doesn't like the UJ232a, period.
The higher-end VPC-Z come with UJ242a drives. Basically saying, you should be using that on a VPC-Z not the UJ232a...
I believe the eject button in the VPC-Z is working differently than it did in VGN Z. If you remember, VGN Z had a tiny eject button on the actual drive. This was because the keyboard button did not work until windows and the sony event service was loaded. VPC Z doesn't have the second eject button and the keyboard eject button works without windows and the vaio event service.
My guess is something's going on with the firmwaare in the vpc z. Since there hasn't been a firmware update released, you'll need to figure out a way to extract the firmware from a VPC Z BD drive (and someone with one to do it for you).
I totally agree with you.
In order to initiate the hacking of the firmware, I would suggest UJ242 users to do the following:
Download DiscInfo 1.70b here: LINK
Start the tool and post the Mata Drive Section of the Summary page (Ctrl+I) here.
Then try MataWinDump in order to dump the firmware of the drive. (Download here: http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/Mata/MataWinDump.zip, replace the two "1" with "i")
Unpack the file and start MataWinDump.bat
I am curious if we can get forward with that.
