is this a good idea?

i am sure if you own a toughbook you have used a ram style mount at least once or have seen them. you can lock the toughbook into the base but the arms are free to rotate and such. al you have to do is rotate thearm tightener and off the mount comes and off your toughbook goes.

I sent the idea to add a u bolt loop or even weld one onto the base and that would allow you to add a security cable also to attach to the toughbook so even if they pulled the tray off they need a pair of bolt cutters to cut the cable.

id have thought they would have thought of that themselves since its such a easy fix and also gives you more security.

Reply 1 : is this a good idea?

I think that if someone had enough balls to break into a security or law enforcements vehicle to steal such a device they'd bring bolt cutters anyways...

Not sayin', just sayin'...

Reply 2 : is this a good idea?

but it would slow them down. so I think not. they want in and out fast.

That's what these; RAM Locking Knob; are for.

Reply 4 : is this a good idea?

And they're actually boat electronics locking knobs which can be found cheaper and in more sizes at boat type places. You probably don't want to leave your computer in the dock if your vehicle is going to be left unattended in a questionable area anyway. Evidence of a suction cup mount having been on your windshield is often enough to get you a broken into car in some neighborhoods.

RAM Mounts offers them in more sizes than just the one I noted, and the "marine electronics" locking knobs aren't all that much cheaper:

GPS, Fish Finder, Chartplotter Lock

Nevertheless; a secondary source is good info to know.

Vaio FZ21E restart always

Hi

I have an laptop Sony Vaio FZ21E, but it have an problem... when I try shut down it restart...

I make an recovery and now put windows 7, but problem continue...

some one know where stay the problem?

best regards

Reply 1 : Vaio FZ21E restart always

If you have loaded a new OS and this is still happening, then it sounds like a hardware issue. What happens if you boot into the BIOS and then shut down via the power switch?

If it restarts then, you have a hardware issue. Most likely the power switch itself, but could be other circuitry as well.

Reply 2 : Vaio FZ21E restart always

Hi

I go to the BIOS and chose shutdown option and it turn of for an secunds and after turn on...

I cant make anythink to solve this?

best regards

Reply 3 : Vaio FZ21E restart always

Sounds like a hardware problem then. When you are in the BIOS and hit the power button, there is no software to interfere with shutting down.

You said you were in the BIOS and chose the shut down option. What happens if you are in the BIOS and just press the power button?

Gary

Reply 4 : Vaio FZ21E restart always

Hi

if I press botton have the same problem... restart...

I don't have my batery on laptop because it don't have charge... this is important?

Reply 5 : Vaio FZ21E restart always

You have a hardware issue. The battery in or out does not matter. Something is wrong with the hardware. Either the switch has failed or the circuit the switch is connected to has failed.

HP Probook 4530s - just ordered

Wanted to join the forum, just purchased this

Got it for 499 + no tax + FS this afternoon. Just what I wanted - business laptop build, Sandy Bridge i3/Intel HD 3000 but with HD webcam, BT 3.0, USB 3.0 and 4 gb Ram and 64 bit OS.

Was going for an Elitebook or a Thinkpad 420/X220 but at this price I think the deal was un-put-downable.

The price fluctuates a little so keep checking all day if you also want it.

Any pointers on what to do with a Probook out of the box? Restore discs? Clean Wipe?

ViDock w/ Sandy Bridge or L1502x/L1702x

Hi,

Has anyone tried ViDock yet or soon? Here's the link for more info:

Thanks all,

Is anyone planning to try this soon so we can use the best desktop GPUs available and might not need to upgrade laptops for years?

History: Got HD5870 working w/ Setup 1.x 3DMark06 = 18024

DIY ViDock Experiences

I'm hoping more users can help test and improve since many newer laptops could be similar to mine.

Now I'm using only 2GB RAM,

Device Manager recognizes GTX460 fine but using Nvidia Property says:

"Nvidia Display settings are not available"

"You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU"

W7-64-Ult sometimes can output 1080p from GTX460 but cause BSOD.

W7-64-Home Prem (shipped w/ system) doesn't ever output 1080p from GTX460 and no BSOD. However, using new 270.61 from laptop2go Nvidia Property recognizes GTX460 only as PhysX. I tried all 4 previous versions of drivers notebook, desktop, and Nando modded inf. I can use MSI Afterburner to control GTX460 fanspeed.

I appreciate any ideas.

Much thanks again.

I only able to get the 460gtx and gt240 to work during the Windows7 logon screen, but froze/crashed after logged in while using 2GB RAM. 5870 doesn't even output at logon screen. All has error 12: cannot allocate resources in Device Manager.

I'm fairly new at ViDock and don't have much time to dig deep into manually changing Setup 1.x, yet.

I just remove the bottom RAM/WWAN cover and use the flat mini hdmi cable w/ the WWAN slot. It also fit the WLAN slot for x4 or mpcie 2.0 x2. It's kind of nice this way so I can quickly change the TV tuner antenna input from ATSC to QAM. It can also help reduce the heat since the heat pipes are exposed. I'm thinking of how to use something like metal clips to attach external heat sink/heat pipe during high CPU usage. Or use small AC power fan in a plastic basket/bin with laptop on top.

BTW, I got gt240 to work w/ the new Setup 1.x. Thanks to Nando4. using 32bitA compact igp and gt240. It didn't work w/ 460gtx or 5870. But still very promising that newer/faster GPU can be use w/ these powerful 5.x lb laptops.

Nando,

Attached is the Diag from L1502x. How do I modify the Setup 1.x Startup to compact 32bitA igp (vid 0) and gt240 (vid 2) and ignore vid 1 (540m).

I can already imagine 570gtx and much faster future generations GPU w/ most laptops.

Do I get it right -> this dell have pciex x2/x4 not x1 ? So if gtx460 on x1 can get 11k in vantage, on x2 or x4 it'll be fast as hell isn't it ? God damn it, I'm gonna order it right now, and I'll even consider 560ti ...

It's unconfirmed atm. See my first post screenshots that it's pcie 2.0 x2 = pcie x4. Physically, I can connect to both WLAN & WWAN mpcie port 1 & port 2. I've got gt240 working so far. Nando4 is helping to get the gtx460 to work. It does look very promising to be able to use many fastest GPU in the future.

Cool. I wish you the best I can only imagine 20k in 3dmar06 on notebook

On screenshot I can only see 5 pci-e x1 ports. I know it's faster than pci-e 1.0, and that you can connect more than one x1 port, but you're suggesting that one of ports is actually x2.

Tell us when you guys figure out how to make gtx460 or faster graphics work.

Ok. I got 3dmark06 score of 17,010 w/ my 5870 (c900/memory 1285).

Result

I'm not sure if it's running at mpcie 1.0 or 2.0. Maybe we need to wait for newer version of software / drivers / or Setup 1.x and more users to help test and improve.

I'm guessing since the 5870 GPU usage is at 100% most of the time, it's not pcie bandwidth limited during benchmark.

I still can't get the gtx460 to work...might be drivers issues or conflict with the gt525m.

I'm using Setup 1.x 36 bit compact vid0 vid2, ignore vid1.

Many thanks again to Nando4 for this great work and the community for this best tech so far.

Thanks.

Nice!

I guess you're using external lcd (internal only possible with optimus right?)

Will you keep trying to get 460gtx/newer working ?

Are there any lags when loading textures (I've read about it in youtube's videos description) ?

I'm 99% sure it's working on pci-e 2.0 - 5870 with desktop cpu is getting around 19k, but since 3dmark06 is cpu dependent and desktop cpus are faster - it's almost same performance!

Can you post GPU score from Vantage ?

HP Recovery software:Where to get it?

Hello Guys;

I just bought an HP DV6-3104eg notebook in germany and want to change the OS to English. I am thinking of botting from CD,formatting the whole laptop and re-installing Windows 7.The drivers in English are available from the HP site. But there was no mention of a recovery software in the software list!

After the Windows and drivers are installed how can I made recovery CDs?

Thanks

Reply 1 : HP Recovery software:Where to get it?

It's not possible in this situation.

You can use for e.x. Acronis.

It's has option to make your own Recovery.

Reply 2 : HP Recovery software:Where to get it?

I might be wrong but I think Windows 7 can make recovery CDs and drive backup (not sure if all the flavors of Win7 but I guess). It should be in the action center if I remember correctly. You can make a backup on an external drive and create recovery CDs to use later on.

Reply 3 : HP Recovery software:Where to get it?

Hi

You mean if I install Win 7 Ultimate, then make recovery CD via Windows?

Is there a way to make the CDs from HP tool?Its really silly that the tool is somewhere in the present German installation or the German recovery partition.But cannot take it out and copy over after new windows installation.

Reply 4 : HP Recovery software:Where to get it?

Just create the recovery set before reinstalling windows with another language.

You cannot alter the recovery language anyways, it will stay German and will overwrite the English installation when used. Basically it's good only when you plan to sell the computer and wish to return it into original condition.

It's simpler to create disc set now, then totally wipe out all partitions including un-usable German recovery and reinstall English Win7.

Reply 5 : HP Recovery software:Where to get it?

Another option is to google for a program that changes the windows 7 language. I think on vista you could find a program to change the language of the installation. So you could install HP's german version and then switch it to english and be happy. Never used something like this though so not sure how well it works.

Reply 6 : HP Recovery software:Where to get it?

That program hacks some resource files to fool windows and allow installing of language files. Biggest downside is that some users have had their windows installation tagged as non-genuine afterwards.

Reply 7 : HP Recovery software:Where to get it?

Thanks for the info guys.W7 ltimate can indeed change language.

I am worried about something going wrong after installing W7 in English and then having to do this again in case something goes wrong.Would be awesome to have a recovery CD after the W7 english installation as well with HP tool.Why do they not allow to download this from their site??

Reply 8 : HP Recovery software:Where to get it?

Even if you could make the HP recovery system work after you install the English Windows 7 it will still restore GERMAN windows installation, since the recovery partition's content is in German.

Basically after everything you have done, at best, you would have two (2) sets of GERMAN recovery discs.

If you wish to create a working "recovery" of your current English installation, do not look at HP for help but instead post #2 in this thread.

Reply 9 : HP Recovery software:Where to get it?

Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise (both x64 and x84 versions)are all capable of creating an image file of any partition (primary or not). In my opinion, this is the better option since you could basically convert the language files over, install any third-party software, drivers, etc you wish then save to either an external HDD or another Windows partition on the same disk. You can even create your own recovery disk(s) utilizing the saved image you create. No need for Arconis at all.

HP Caps Lock Error / Quick Buttons Error

When I hit caps lock on my 6910p, two other quick button items on the button-less button panel light up (enable/disable).

So I press caps lock, and the laptop mutes and runs the HP system information program.

I see the orange mute light up, and the hp system info program turn green and run. I then have to hit the orange mute or the green system info or use windows to enable sound and close the hp system info.

Caps lock does come on though...

Has anyone else encountered this?

Reply 1 : HP Caps Lock Error / Quick Buttons Error

Uninstall, Re-install, Restart, worked.

Reply 2 : HP Caps Lock Error / Quick Buttons Error

Problem came back again.

Hey CP Matrix (inside joke)

Reply 3 : HP Caps Lock Error / Quick Buttons Error

ARom, did you ever get to the bottom of this problem? I'm having the same problem with a Compaq 6910p laptop, whereby the sound goes poppy and the lights on the volume touch bar shoot up and down as soon as you hit Caps Lock.

I've tried updating the BIOS and installing the latest drivers but I don't think it's a software fault, as when I go into the BIOS (or am in the Windows boot menu) the lights still flash if I hit Caps Lock.

I'm not sure if I need to post a new thread as this is old, so will do that as well, but if you got it sorted it'd be great if you could feedback on how you fixed it!

Thanks

Your thoughts on Latitude E6420 design

I own Dell Latitude E6400. Solid, love it, and has that business look. Same with E6410.

The new E6420, seems more solid that its predecessor, but the new design lost its elegant business looks. It looks like Packard Bell LOL. I am not here to bash the new Lat, but just want to discuss on the new design. I myself is Dell fans (my desktop is Dell, laptop is Dell, and server is Dell as well).

I've been looking at the catalog pics (in dell.com) thousand times and trying to like it, but it hasn't worked out yet.

Anyone thoughts?

Reply 1 : Your thoughts on Latitude E6420 design

It's nice, but I don't like the orange stripe around the keyboard, what on earth have they done that, the little brother doesn't have it though.

Reply 2 : Your thoughts on Latitude E6420 design

I have a lot of opinions about the e6420...its the first computer I've ever returned!

Aesthetically, what I didn't like:

1.) Enormously wide bezel around the LCD.

2.) Thick LCD cover.

3.) Rubbery/"soft touch" palm rest.

4.) Keyboard flex. (way more than e6410)

5.) DVD tray flex (catches on chassis when closing)

6.) 7 screws on the back of the bottom panel, zero on the front.

7.) The lid latch.

8.) The color scheme reminds my of my old hp zt1180 from 1998.

9.) Overall additional bulk due to excessive display bezel and lid thickness.

10.) Stupid, stupid, stupid 16:9 screen...exactly what I want, more blank space on the sides of my web browser.

11.) The 1990's style power brick.

12.) Lid material being a magnet for fingerprints and skin oils. (This will permanently damage the lid surface)

I did like:

1.) The larger touchpad (could be bigger still....)

2.) Adjustable backlit keyboard brightness.

3.) Lid structural rigidity.

4.) OPTIMUS

Reply 3 : Your thoughts on Latitude E6420 design

I actually like the new design direction. It reminds me of the DX20/30 days, the earlier E series systems, while nice (and you could get them in awesome colors!) seemed to look like every other business notebook, pretty plain. I understand why people are into that, look at the many who buy ThinkPad's every year, but one reason I chose Latitude was for it's distinctive (relatively speaking) looks compared to the rest of the competition.

While I haven't gotten my hands on one yet in person, I like the splash of orange around the keyboard, it doesn't appear too noticeable in photos. I also like the port arrangement, the keyboard and trackpad layout (dunno about feel..again..haven't tried yet) and the aesthetic treatment done to the lid. The frosted silver "ring" around the base of the system is a nice touch as well. I do wish they would have continued the color options...perhaps a orange aluminum/textured lid to match the orange ring would be cool.

I wish PC vendor's would figure out a way to have a nicer designed power brick, didn't realize they were the same as last years...which was the same as..welll...you get the point :P

Performance and functionality wise, I'm a bit dismayed by the decision to go 16:9, yet it's understandable considering the pricing and supply pressures vendors like Dell probably have when they try to ask for a 16:10 screen. I'm happy though that they're offering Optimus enabled graphics cards: There's almost no reason for me to choose integrated now, nor choose the 9 cell battery, as people seem to be getting excellent battery life with the 6 cell and switchable graphics.

Reply 4 : Your thoughts on Latitude E6420 design

I have an e6520.

I like the rubberize palm actually.

The bezel on the screen is HUGE. From memory, I'd say about an inch on each side horizontal and even more vertically (of course mine is a 15.6" so FWIW).

The bottom is actually what gets me the most. I've seen people claim it is magnesium alloy, but it feels like plastic, it doesn't get cold like lid (though I think that's aluminum)...so....

Of course the right front corner build quality.

The LCD panel (1600x900) is nice as far as brightness and clarity go.

The speakers are really bad. Like I though my T60 was bad enough.

Keyboard isn't bad...I haven't noticed any flexing really.

Reply 5 : Your thoughts on Latitude E6420 design

looks ridiculous IMO, i would NOT want to take one of those out in a board room....

the E6X00 and E6X10 series with their brushed covers looked so classy and professional

Reply 6 : Your thoughts on Latitude E6420 design

I'm actually pretty happy with the design of the laptop and the bottom is metal indeed. feels like plastic but take it off and you will see. Unfortunately myself and many others are having problems with the bottom panel popping off if pressure is applied a certain way. I've sent mine back for repairs but i honestly dont see how they will fix it.

Reply 7 : Your thoughts on Latitude E6420 design

I really liked the E6400/E6410 design. Great uses of angles, and the best example of minimalistic design in a laptop I've seen yet. In an age where most laptops are generic looking glossy things with rounded corners, the E6410 is rather unique.

Reply 8 : Your thoughts on Latitude E6420 design

Given the design flaws we have already seen with it, plus the unprofessional look, I do not like the new refresh at all. Besides who wants an orange trim around the keyboard...ugh.

FWIW... I'm not real fond of the orange stripe either... I'll update with my impressions after getting it in my hands next week.

ASUS web storage

Anyone know anything about it, for new purchases? Thought it was good for awhile...mines coming up at 60 day free trial?

Reply 1 : ASUS web storage

Asus web storage is an online backup/storage service. It's a nice to have such a service but paying a fee after the trial period may not be for everyone. You could switch to the free basic service that offers 2GB of space and if you need more space, Adrive probably offers the largest capacity for free (50GB).

Reply 2 : ASUS web storage

Why not use your email storage, I know hotmail gives you 5 gigs I think with their skydrive.

Reply 3 : ASUS web storage

I thought is a free service offered by Asus for buyers; good to know it's only trial... I was preparing to do a backup with it, but not anymore now

Reply 4 : ASUS web storage

yup, I thought it was a free service as well. And more so my understanding was that it was 500 gig of space with purchase....but its apparently only a 60 day trial...

For Asus netbooks, I believe it's free for a year.

NC10 query and N150 query ...

My wife's NC10 has problems .... I have an Intel 945 Graphics card problem and I have tried to reinstall etc to no avail and always get back to a blue screen and the only way the computer will work in in lower screen resolution, which is really not do-able. It is 3 years old and has been a great little workhorse. Retirement I think ... SO I bought a N150 (With Atom 550) etc ... BUT it seems to have a Windows 7 problem. When I install a program I need to wait for several MINUTES before this Windows 7 box pops up to ask whether or not I want to go ahead with install ... and also it is generally sluggish ...strange. Yes I did remove all bloatare. I am on a N140 which is brilliant ...

Any advice welcome ...maybe looking at the new NC220 or so ... need something stable. 9 series looks great but such tiny HDDs, shame.

Reply 1 : NC10 query and N150 query ...

Shame about the NC10. Did you try reinstalling the original image of Windows? (Press F4 at the BIOS screen (if my memory is correct).

That big delay on the N150 is most likely caused by Windows' UAC. Were there still noticeable time lags once the software had been installed?

John

Reply 2 : NC10 query and N150 query ...

John, thanks for the answer yes still lags in certain programs after install. Lags and ten just crashes ... what did they do with the 150 ? I have been loving my NC10 and N140. I am looking at a NC210 for me now ... what is the difference with the NC110 ?? Both new but apart from colour any difference ? Also that NC210 they sell in UK states it has an Intel 550 but does not say the usual DUAL CORE... I think there may be a single core N550 ...any ideas ? Thanks

CF-52 Wifi Issue

Hi,

I have a CF-52 with a wireless card fitted under the L-shaped hatch on the bottom of the unit however it is not available when powered up.

I am worried it may be a BIOS issue as all the correct drivers are installed and even the switch doesnt change anything.

In the BIOS there is no option to turn WIFI on either which is why i think it is a BIOS issue. The details are:

Model - CF-52PFNBVPE

BIOS - V3.00L12 M30

Controller - V3.00L11

Firmware - 6.0.30.1203

Can someone confirm if they have the same details and if they have the WIFI working.

PLEASE NOTE - I have turned the swith on and off and tried turning the laptop on with the switch on and off as well, no difference. Wifi, bluetooth and wireless switch are all disabled in panasonic pc information viewer.

Can anyone help with this issue as it it really bugging me now. Panasonic support say try the switch even though i said it is definately not the switch or drivers!! THEN they give me a parts suppliers email address in Wales who only provide parts, no tech support at all!!

If no one can help, could some one please point me in the right direction to someone that may be able to or where i can get a BIOS update/dowwngrade for my model?

Thank you.

Reply 2 : CF-52 Wifi Issue

Is it the original wifi card? The bios will only recognize certain Intel cards. I have an Intel card I stick in the Toughbooks just to be able to see the options in the bios. Once I turn it on in the bios, I can swap in whatever card I want. I use atheros cards.

My cf 51 won't recognize an Intel 5100 card. The 51 came with a 3945 originally.

Is this still under warranty? If so, you may want to just contact Panasonic.

Otherwise I would try a different 6220 card.

Reply 6 : CF-52 Wifi Issue

I have tried to get an answer from Panasonic but they said to take it in, however i am out of the country for 6 months and this is not possible.

Its not the 6220 card, i have several laptops here with the same issue. I recon it is something to do with the BIOS version as the company i work for may have locked this function down by changing the BIOS.

I have tried all drivers and the hardware switch but it still doesnt give me the option to turn on wireless in the BIOS. The device is recognised in device manager when the driver is installed so this is why i think it is a modified BIOS issue.

Do you know where i can get a BIOS flash from as they dont have any CF-52 BIOS downloads on the Panasonic support page so i cannot confirm if i have the OEM BIOS installed.

Reply 7 : CF-52 Wifi Issue

I see. The wifi may be locked out by your company as it is their laptop. They may not want surfing on company time or for security reasons. Security is why the federal models do not have wifi. It may be locked out via the TPM chip (if that is possible) In that case you can not "fix" it.

Why not try a USB or Expresscard wifi device? I personally would rather go that route and leave as few tracks as possible. Your employer may not have a sense of humor if they found out you modified their equipment with a bios flash.

Reply 8 : CF-52 Wifi Issue

It is work that wants it doing. I have put a clean install of Win 7 x64 on to see if that cleared the issue but it didnt. I have enabled and disabled and run all the combinations in between on the BIOS settings to see if that changes anything and nothing. There arent any switches on the motherboard which would disable the wireless card and the antenna cables are connected correctly.

All of these point to the BIOS being the issue. Can anyone confirm the standard CF-52 Mk3 BIOS version and where they are available from and also if they can think of any other issue.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Some info from the Panasonic FAQ on the CF52.

Could it be that simple that the radio is turned off in software?

Are you using an official recovery disc? I am pretty sure Panasonic will send you one free for such a new laptop. It really would be a good idea to have one. The front switch won't work without all of the drivers installed. wswitch and misc are needed.

[GUIDE] How to change your Dell MediaDirect button's functionality

There have been many posts asking how to change the function of the Dell MediaDirect button (the little house). I thought it might be easier for people to reference if the basics were all located under one thread. What follows is the process I use.

Couple of important bits of info before we begin:

1. This process DOES NOT require you have MediaDirect. Quickset is required as Quickset creates the Registry Keys which we need and handles the routing.

2. Tested and verfied compatible with MediaDirect 3.5, MediaDirect 4.0, Quickset 8.2.20+. Works with Vista 32/64, XP 32/64 and Windows 7 x64. (Thanks to arjunnedfor confirming XP and Win 7 x64)

Without further delay, let's get started.

1. We will need to modify a couple of registry keys. Open REGEDIT via the RUN command (type REGEDIT). This will launch the REGISTRY EDITOR. (Again, if these keys are missing, just create them).

Find the following keys...

Weird problem when I OC/DC my GPU

Using the 11.4 preview drivers and also a few previous versions I set the clock to 700Mhz to match up with the 5870 and doing to tests, one in ATI Control center and one with furmark I seems to pass. The temperature never gets above 94, so I'm pretty sure it's fine-

When I OC after a few seconds I get a flickering in the top of my screen. I also tried to downclock and the same happends. When I reset to default the problem disappears. So I'm pretty sure this is software related.

Any suggestions to resolve this ?

Reply 1 : Weird problem when I OC/DC my GPU

Abybody who knows of a program where I can OC my gpu?

Reply 2 : Weird problem when I OC/DC my GPU

AMD GPU clock tool can do the trick. And you can even make separate shortcuts with preset clocks.

Reply 3 : Weird problem when I OC/DC my GPU

Now this is even more interesting. I uninstalled, reinstalled, got problems with the driver and had to do a uninstall through safe mode. Then I reinstalled, and now the problem is gone, and even better. The temperature never exceeds 82 C

Which is 10 below my normal. This is awesome.

Btw, still using the 11.4 preview driver

New L420 Owner - L420 Sruvival Stories?

Hey everyone,

So after much research on an affordable laptop I decided to go with the Thinkpad L420. The price was great and I'm looking forward to the Lenovo's legendary reliability.

While I patiently await the delivery of my new laptop, I was wondering if anyone had any stories about their L420/520. Stories of dropping or drowning or just general beating up of the the laptop. I understand they do not come with the Lenovo Roll Cage so I'm a little curious how much these notebooks can take. Thanks!

L420 came today. First Thinkpad and its very nice. The L420 is meant for more consumer tasks so it's meant for desktops, libraries, coffee shops, offices. Travels in a briefcase, backpack, sling. Feels very durable. I wouldn't put too much pressure/weight on the lcd screen because I can see ripples. I don't think many people have the L420/520 models because the first shipment was delivered only this week. Compared to the L412, this model has metal hinges.

Reply 2 : New L420 Owner - L420 Sruvival Stories?

Bit too early for durability reports of the L420 but given history, the ThinkPad range does tend to last well through its expected life cycle so I don't expect it to be much different for the L420. My ThinkPads had been scratched, bashed and even got thrown out to a ditch at some point in its life but still works fine to this day, though the ThinkPads I have now were designed differently back then compared to today (lack of LCD rollcage is one of them).

I'm planning to retire one of them not because it's broken but simply with new technology on the horizon I thought it's time to get a fresh set (well they're approaching 4 years old now). I'm pretty sure you want to get to that stage rather than replacing for the sake of it because they just cease to work.

As long you use the system within sensible means (like don't perform drop tests for fun) then I wouldn't worry about the system too much as i'm sure it will last you well.

I thought the roll cage was a Lenovo addition to the ThinkPad design. Or, maybe not. Most recent ThinkPads have the roll cage don't they? Another option: I could be completely misunderstanding you!

I wish I could replace laptops for the sake of it. But I ain't got the bank balance to support this lurking tendency!

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yeah I forgot the l420 just came out lol. My bad. But the l series is the only series without a rollcage as far as I know. The l series is the cheap thinkpad so I'm pretty sure all other models have rollcages.

Reply 5 : New L420 Owner - L420 Sruvival Stories?

Don't know if this applies but my T420 fell off a desk in lecture hall by about 2 feet and slid a couple feet down the tile walkway (lid was closed when it fell) and there wasn't a scratch on it.

Even without a roll cage your L series should survive stuff like that just as well.

A fall like that would have really hurt my old XPS l501x.

Some models do have rollcages to protect the motherboard, but the magnesium LCD roll cage that protects the screen from shocks and pressure have virtually disappeared from the current models. It's a shame as my R61e (e for economy) even has a lid rollcage, I take it as a result of Lenovo trying to find ways to minimise costs on these new systems.

Reply 7 : New L420 Owner - L420 Sruvival Stories?

The "L" series does not have the built in roll cage.

I doubt it's cost savings as much as engineering issues. The lid frame is no longer a strict necessity as CCFL backlights are no more (and thus panels aren't as susceptible to flex causing the tubes to crack). It's also not as practical, given the simultaneous increase in the number of antennas and decrease of lid thickness. Compare the lid thickness on, say, a T61 and a T420 some time, and you'll see why a magnesium frame isn't really an option.

CFRP is pretty damn durable stuff. It's not the perfect choice of materials for the T series like it is for the X series, but it's still quite good. Definitely an improvement from the HEPC found on the T410, and comparable in real-world survivability to the 14" T60 covers.

Reply 9 : New L420 Owner - L420 Sruvival Stories?

more parts = more cost, since the cost of assembly will depend on the no. of parts that need to be assembled. Also, the magnesium rollcage + PC casing do cost more than the simple CFRP only top casing.

Lenovo engineering and management made a judgement on the marginal benefit versus marginal cost of having the rollcage + PC casing (and the extra cost in assembly), and the MB < MC.

I had discussed this with my friend whom works at HP, he reckons that the T61 and T400 casing were over engineered and most people probably wouldn't really need that sort of protection in their everyday use.

But L420 should be great, it is basically a Thinkpad R5x in design. I think this is where Lenovo is trying to drive the L series towards, making the L series more like R5x thinkpad rather than the over engineered and low profit margin R6x and R400/R500 series. I would get the L420 if it doesn't have that crappy keyboard design.

Which Card?

One of my x205's graphic card died and im about to order the new one. i did some research and it turns out there are two type of card in sli models; Master and Slave. But i dont know which one to get?

Also whts the different between these cards (apart from the fact that 2 of these are master and 2 are slave)

Keyboard replacement for the XPS L502X... Need help please...

I live in Turkey and there are no signs as to the release of the new XPS L502X here; there's no trace of an upcoming release of it neither on the Turkish Dell site, nor the local distributors have any urgent plans for bringing this machine overseas...

I'm seriously considering purchasing a self-configured L502X from the US Dell site, have it delivered to a friend of mine who lives in the US and will be coming this way next month. But there are two serious matters that I have to sort out before I can pull the trigger.

1. I will need a Turkish keyboard.

1a. Would it be possible to have Dell install a Turkish keyboard on my laptop before or after I place my order?

1b. If it's not possible to do so, then is there an outside source (a warehouse or whatever) where I could order a Turkish keyboard that is specifically made for L502X model? Or is there a site where I can have a custom Turkish keyboard made for the L502X?

2. If I choose to go with the online purchase of the item, I believe the warranty will only be functional in the US. That means I will not be able to have free service locally; I will have to pay for the service... Do you think it would be unwise to ignore the warranty becoming void locally and go ahead with the purchase?

Thanks in advance for your replies...

No idea how it works in the US, but EU orders can be configured with any keyboard and OS language you like...they don't even have to match...my XPS15 has not the same keyboard and OS language.

Yes, this looks true, but if you buy in US you receive a XPS15 L502X that has island keyboard, if in your country not exist new XPS15 L502X yet, but only old version L501X then maybe doesn't exist a island Turkish keyboard version to make replace.

It should exist...my keyboard layout is from country where you can't even order online...and its not available...but I ordered in Germany...

Could you point me to the link where you have bought yours from?

I found this site when I seacrhed for "Dell Europe" on google.

Dell EMEA | Dell Dell EMEA

But how do you get to the point where you managed to select a keyboard layout specific to your country?

So you called Dell-Germany and ordered your laptop via phone and had the keyboard of your choice installed, right?

I would really appreciate it if you could give me that phone number for Germany. And if that is possible in Germany, I am hopeful it could happen in the USA, too. Maybe I should call Dell-USA and see if I can get the same result for myself. But what phone number should I call in the USA to place an order by phone?

EDIT: Well, I did call Dell USA and I was told there's no Turkish keyboard available for L502X.

Now I'll try reaching Dell Germany by phone.

Surely there's a Dell phone number in Turkey?

I would hold off buying via the US, if you get any problems later you'll regret having to be without your machine for weeks at a time never mind the potential repeat customs problems.

If there's no number in Turkey you could ring the UK numbers, at least they're in Europe.

http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php

Enter Dell in the search box and the UK country code is +44, don't ring the 0844 or 0847 type number they're not for International use, instead look for the 01344 type number. The +353 numbers are in Ireland but many are now not used since Dell moved production to Poland.

Good Luck

I cannot seem to call that number, yes... I wanted to give Dell Germany a try even though I found out Dell USA cannot have a Turkish keyboard installed on the laptops, because currently about 3 million Turks live in Germany.

The L502X I configured on the Dell USA site totals up to 1500 $. I and a few others estimate the price of the same machine to be about 3000-4000 TL in Turkey, which equals to 2000-2500 $. So I thought the price difference would make it up to having no local warranty, but I'm still undecided on that...

v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

Notes for v1035 said the issue with HDMI ports not being recognized was eliminated so I d/l'd & installed. Turns out to be a BIG mistake, i should have stayed with v1032.

Picture now looks like 480 vs 1080, out of focus or dull or blurry or like a bit of vaseline was smeared on the camera lens, it's darker, flesh looks like melted wax, lines get jaggy and dark images during scene transitions tend to become multi-color pixellated. Looks like a filter got narrowed or amplifiers quit or scan lines arent being processed. You know that test picture in the menu for troubleshooting purposes? Well that's how good my satellite system looked in regular mode, never mind how crazy good it looked like in HD mode.

Tech support said no way to revert to a previous Firmware version, maybe adjust the contract.

UNACCEPTABLE!

He said wait 24-72 hrs but i'm posting here now hoping to get some exposure because barring some miracle i don't see a speedy resolution to this.

My suggestions to them were to:
- create new firmware which emulates exactly 1032; don't care if it's just for me or post it on the Samsung website, call it v1036
- create something which allows installing old version firmware, why the heck not??
- replace the whole TV from the same store I bought it from because the picture in batch of TV's out of the box was PERFECT
- NOT an option is to replace the mobo. Already tried that 2 weeks before 1035 came out and they installed some ancient version board with v1020 chips on it, the video was just as bad; I insisted the original board be reinstalled because the tech didn't ship it back yet and BOOM the picture was restored to it's former PERFECTION! i have to catch myself from watching commercials because they even looked so gooood.

I may seem a bit crazy about this but I spent a lotta cash like everyone else to buy this great at the time TV and other box upgrades. The picture was to die for and now i am very very sad happy

Lets go Samsung make us happy!

Reply 1 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

How did you download the firmware upgrade? Via USB or via Internet connection?

Reply 2 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

Downloaded both ways: from 1027 to 1032 via USB and from 1032 to 1035 via Online

Reply 3 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

Because the TVs Software will, "and don't ask me why." Not let you revert back to a time where everything was working great.

I know it is compleetly stupid, and this option Should be surely included, So if anything goes worng then you atleast have the option to put things right. But until then you are stuck with the reset option. Which in my opinion is useless we need a revert back option ASAP.

Reply 4 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

If the TV doesn't have enough ROM, RAM, EPROM or whatever to store 150MB then at least allow the revert/rollback functionality to work and you store the firmware on a USB stick or HDD and then choose where the TV can d/l from.

Service guy is coming this Friday the 4th and if it's not repairable to my satisfaction they'll replace the whole thing which i believe is completely unnecessary; just gimme a firmware rollback lol. biiiiiiiiiiiiig sigh

Reply 5 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

Called Samsung Star Service today after so being disappointed with the on-site tech. They are sending a different service contractor since there was no resolution from the other tech with his special magical calibrated eyeball diagnostic equipment happy

At this point I am happy with Samsung attempting to resolve this issue, crossing my fingers!

SAMSUNG Sucks as a TV company

Ok, So For the Record I have the: Samsung PN50C8000 50-Inch 1080p 3D Plasma HDTV

Now when I bought this baby I got it from Amazon's warehouse deal paid like $1595 for it.. (the problems started right out the door, remote and extra plug and back cover for mounting on wall was for the wrong model -and Amazon refuse to send me the right one -they just said you can send it back but from warehouse you get what you get...(Great)-then can someone tell me why the hell do you write in the warehouse description -"TV comes with all it's original accessories- everything in Brand new condition...?"

Ok, I know this is about firmware, I'm sorry I get upset when I think about this...

So I get my TV and start to watch it.. OMG!! OMG!! oh my God.. the picture quality is to die for.. I'm watching a movie I had on my USB stick and it's unreal.. The TV just came already calibrated or something because every mode: Dynamic, Standard, Relax, Movie, CAL-NIGHT, CAL-DAY.. all set to perfection..

I was in heaven... I just could not believe how good it looked, I was so happy I went with the plasma.. yes there was some reflection from sunlight and I didn't have the right remote, but OMG picture was stunning, so who cares... I watched TV all day that day.. I just could not believe it.

Then I hooked up internet to it, plugged it in since I had enough cable coming from the router to add the TV.. and guess what I saw, "oh there is a firmware update" - ok did it, and everything was fine... it was like 1013 or 15 or something earlier.. no problem, was suppose to be fixing the Apps, make them load faster or something..

first one I did no problem.. thought ok if they are making the TV better why not..

Then came the Firmware before This one 1020 or right before that one.. I DID THAT ONE AND WOW...

THE TV LOOKED LIKE A FUZZY POS..(Piece of S___) yeah... I could not believe it..

I called Samsung 911 right away, and of course they were absolutely no help what so ever..("can I please just go back to the firmware before this when My TV was fine", no sir these are not reversible. (-wow you think you could have told me that before like right before it installs) They just kept telling me stupid things to do like reset the menu or try to adjust contrast -(I wanted to die) I have never been so upset in my whole life like this at a Company..

-They basically reached into my TV from the internet and took my Porsche and turned it into a FU_K__ Hyundai through the dam firmware update...

After calling them everyday for like 5 days straight in complete pain from the horror of what they did to my TV... (some rep told me that firmware was not suppose to go out, because it messing up whatever TV settings you had on the TV) GREAT, thanks Samsung..(for not testing the S___ before putting it out) DAM YOU GUYS ROCK! NOT!!!

All they keep telling me is you can send it back- LoL -Never-mind I just mounted to the wall myself and it was no where near easy, now just take it down and try my luck at sending it back to you idiots who couldn't test a firmware update before putting it out, and of course pay to ship it (no refund on shipping) and hope I get my money back for the TV.. Ha... Ha.. (so basically trust SAMSUNG to do the right thing after you been doing me dirty for a whole week) NO THANKS!! CRACK HEADS!

So today I have the firmware right before 1035 and of course it messed up other things like the motion Judder Canceller no longer works, it's a complete joke..

I tried to adjust the setting best I could but the TV is so far from the beauty it was when I got it, that it could almost make you want to cry..

I Officially hate SAMSUNG I mean I hate them... I go to the store and everyone I see I try to convince them to NOT BUY A SAMSUNG, and if you must whatever you do, don't do A FIRMWARE UPDATE on your TV...

It's 2011 and the idiots at samsung can make an App store for your TV but couldn't have the common sense to make an app that Saves your TV settings...

So after you spend days getting the perfect picture, or if your lucky (and it comes adjusted perfect like mine did) you have no way to save those settings.. So in-case of a horror like this, a stupid firmware update you can't- at least go back to the picture settings you had..

Thanks Samsung for killing my HDTV dreams - I saved up for a long time to buy my first HDTV and you turned it into a Fu_k___ Nightmare..

Again I HATE YOU SAMSUNG, I Seriously HATE YOU.

PEOPLE DON'T DO FIRMWARE UPDATES, -SAMSUNG firmware updates are like opening the back of your TV up and trusting a 2 year old with a screwdriver to adjust your Picture setting on the Motherboard...

The Dumbest thing you could possible do.. A trained monkey could do a better job then the person Samsung has working on the firmware updates.. (yeah it's most likely one person because I can't see how a team of people would mess up firmwares so bad)

Reply 7 : v1035 firmware broke picture quality on my LN55C750

Wow Crazyglues you're having as much troubles as I am dealing with Samsung firmware engineers, best thing they could do is allow a rollback or to any previously installed firmware..it would cost peanuts to insall the equivalent of a flashdrive into this thing.

So, here's my latest fun and the scope of incompetency widens: TV repairguy #1 and his magic calibrated eyeballs says nothing wrong with the TV again after staring at it for awhile. I called Samsung again and told them to FIX this thing and send someone else hence a visit from a different TV repair company, let's call him repairguy #2.

#2 replaced the mainboard, no difference, then he replaced the video interface board and hmmmmmmmmmmm this is starting to look hopeful, picture was less blurry or fuzzy or whatever you call it (no amount of Menu adjustments fixed anything previous to this board). OK so now he put the original mainboard back and......drum roll.............
Backlighting came on but NO PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!! He put the original mainboard and video interface board back and ................NO PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Power supply board is allegedly flakey but he ordered another mainboard and another power supply board.

Parts count so far: 3 replacement mainboards (1 still to install), 1 replacement power supply boards (1 still to install), 1 replacement video interface board.

Power supply board is not in yet from California but at least the 3rd mainboard now looks to be identical to the original green board (others were blue and had earlier versions so what up with that??? prototypes????

IF this doesn't work TV is going back to Samsung; i'm surprised I let it go this far without just getting a new one.

I'll be b aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

Your idea for slution is required

Hi all,

I will start with describing the situation:
1) I have WiFi connection and local network installed.
2) I can connect my laptop (and other devices) via WiFi to the network and browse the local network as well as the internet.
3) I have two other desktops that are wired (connected via wire) to the network and works fine (can get to the internet)

The problem:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I conneced one additional desktop to my home network via WiFi and I can browse the local network but
I CANNOT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET
Do you have any idea what can be the problem?
(I already reinstalled the computer and restarted the wireless router)
Thanks for any idea....
Shai
Reply 1 : Your idea for slution is required
- Does it work wired? You only tell about wireless.
- What exactly is "reinstalling the computer"?
-] What happens if you try to "connect to the Internet" and how do you do that? For example, can you ping a website?
- What OS on this desktop? Windows 95? Linux? Speaking of Linux, does it work if you boot from a Linux Live disk?
- Now take that same uncooperative desktop to another location (friend or family). Does it work there wired? Wireless?
HDMI Problem
I just brought a HDMI lead so i could play my xbox on my HP Touchsmart 600-1210 which has a full 1080p HD Graphics card. So i plugged it in and found that the picture was a terrible 480p. I've looked through forums to try and find a solution, but failed.
I was just hoping someone could tell me how to get a full 1080p gaming experience out of cmy computer, which i thought would be a simple task after there being so muh adversity about it being an 1080p system.
PLEASE HELP!
No clue, probably only 1333.
Reply 6 : Stock RAM for xps17 L702x???????
Just wondering, assuming only 1333 is available for the i7-2720, what kind/brand of RAM is everyone getting? Any brands to avoid?
Anyone have any new info if 1600 is supported?
Reply 7 : Stock RAM for xps17 L702x???????
1600 isn't supported by the CPU.
Reply 8 : Stock RAM for xps17 L702x???????
Thanks!
I wanna get some 2x4GB sticks to replace the stock, but I'm a newbie about installing RAM, so I could I install something like 10666, or would only 10664 work?
Any particular brands that are better than others? Any configurations (2x2GB, 2x4GB, etc) that would work better?
Help needed
Hi,
I've just bought a Lenovo T401i and an OCZ Vertex 2 80gb SSD.
Using thinkvantage recovery, I backed up the files into my 16gb USB drive.
However, when I replace the thinkpad hard disk with the SSD and plugged in the USB boot drive, my computer could only recognize the SSD and said there was 'no bootable partition' within my usb. Why is that so and what should Ido?
Any help would be much appreciated. I have browsed around the forum but there seems to be a paucity of information related. Thanks again!
Larahir
Further information:
1. When Itried to boot, this message appeared:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
No bootable partition in table.
I have already changed the bios to boot USB FDD first...
Reply 2 : Help needed
Well, I'll take a very basic stab at your situation:
* No telling what happened to the USB backup at this point.
* You -do- have the old hard drive, righto? (Never discard original until the replacement is proven to work).
* You need to debug your backup on the USB, so -if- you have the old/original hard drive, swap that back in and boot it up; check things out.
* Your backup -to- the USB is likely not bootable, so you need another approach to what is, effectively, cloning the hard drive to your new SSD. I don't use thinkvantage recovery, but I'd guess it didn't copy over boot info to your usb gizmo drive. Backing up files is -not- the same thing as cloning a drive.
SO, all of the above said, I'd recommend you start over. If you have limited experience cloning new drives and setups, either get some local help or research this thoroughly on the web before starting again.
What -most- people do is something like this:
* Backup the original drive to somewhere; another drive connected via USB port is an example. A second (D:) partition on the original drive might be another location.
* Either hook up the new drive and restore the backup directly to the new drive, -or- boot up the restore software via a CD/DVD and have it run the restore to the new drive.
* Swap drives, boot & test the new drive.
The above process works best if you have capability for -both- new & old drives to be hooked up to your laptop at the same time. Otherwise, it gets more complicated.
If you did something like dispose of, wipe, or other misc. thing to render your original drive useless, then you're learning the hard way(as most experienced users do at some point) that you -never- scratch a drive or make too many changes at once. Doing so is asking for disaster...
Thanks for your help!
1.) yes, I do have my original hard drive (the one that came with the notebook). There is no valuabel information in there though, it's brand new. I only want to extract the windows from it and install it into my SSD
2.) There are some new developments. I borrowed a USB docking station from my friend and Iwas able to connect the SSD to it. So I have my Thinkpad (with stock HDD in it) connected to a dock with SSD on it. Is there a way that I can 'clone' the HDD into the SSD? What software would help? Would thinkvantage do the trick?
ThinkVantage utilities won't help you. You need something that you can create into a bootable CD.
Acronis TrueImage is a good solution, though you'll have to pay a few bucks for it; the Home version should do well enough. It may be that the 30-day trial edition will work too. Install it on a system other than your ThinkPad, create a bootable Rescue CD, and use it to clone one drive to the other.
I've used the free Clonezilla Live CD to do this too, but Clonezilla isn't nearly so user-friendly, and unfortunately, it won't clone from a bigger disk to a smaller one, even if the files will fit, so that's out in this case (I'm guessing your hard drive is probably larger than the SSD you're installing).
Isn't Thinkvantage Rescue and Recovery suppose to have a create bootable recovery DVD option?
Reply 6 : Help needed
Yes, but the OP decided to use a USB flash drive instead of CD+DVDs. I suspect something went awry during the procedure. (I gather that the USB drive must have been formatted as FAT32 instead of NTFS. But, in general, I'm not familiar with the USB scheme to offer any suggestions.) Even if the OP now wants to re-do the R&R onto CD+DVDs, ThinkVantage won't allow it because it may be done only once.
I've come across the Acronis TrueImage solution, as suggested by LoneWolf15, in various forum threads. I hope it will be helpful.
Hi, I have just downloaded the Acronic Truimage free trial solution. I tried to backup the new thinkpad onto the SSD directly and create a 'rescue disk' on a USB. But when I booted up arconis loader popped up but when Iclicked on 'recovery' in the procedure and tried to boot with the SSD alone, it did not work. Can anyone walk me through the back up and install procedure?
Samsung LCD TV LE37M87BD
Hello Everyone!
We live in Spain and we bought the above TV about 2 years ago.
We have a Communial Ariel to connect for the TV.
We bought the above TV which was supposedly Full HD. (That is what it had "Full HD2 on the paper fixed to the TV when we bought it.)
After the Digital TV came in, in place of analogue - we were never able to get HD transmisions. We thought that this was because the members of the community had opted for the cheaper ariel of a choice of two.
We also had a smaller TV which has just 'died' and is not repairable. So we have bought a Toshiba HD Ready TV in it's place.
Surprise, surprise, when automatically tuning it in, it receives HD with NO PROBLEM!
How on earth can I get HD programmes on the Samsung - which cost an arm and a leg when it was bought?!
Than ks for any input, in advance.
colinito,
I can only speak on US-based products. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer because I don't know what kind of tuner your specific model has.
If you'd like troubleshooting with your LE37M87BD, contact the Samsung customer service center in your region.
HD Tech,
Thanks, I will try to find someone to explain the technical details in Spanish - I'm OK for conversation, but technical matters are a little out of my range, which is why I came here!
Colinito.
Reply 3 : Samsung LCD TV LE37M87BD
Further to my question above,I spoke to the outlet where I bought the TV and they said that there is no reason why I can not get HD!! No advice was given just the Spanish 'shrug of the shoulders'!!
I have my ariel connected through a Samsung DVD/VCR combi. Could it be that this combi cannot receive digital signals and will not therefore allow the full HD TV to get the HD?
I have tried to tune the combi in to the digital signal and store the channels, but it only finds analogue signals. There is no instruction in the user manual to indicate how to find analogue and/or digital, just the 'search' option of automatic or manual.
Now, for some reason, I am unable to get the "Channel" selection in the set-up programme on the TV!
One problem after another!
Any further advice would be gratefully received!
Thank you,
Colinito
X220 will have 1600x900 IPS panel option!!
Just discovered that some people posted a page here:
X220 will have optional 1600x900 IPS
The IPS 1600x900 panel could come along with Camera and 3G antenna.
nowhere to find the x220 graphics driver to download, but definitely a dream lappy would be.
My purse would bleed again!!
COOL! Thats one thing I was looking forward to seeing. The higher res better suits my needs. Too bad they cant fit 1920x1200 in a 15 inch. I'd be all over that! 1600x900 will probably be good enough though. Now I might pick one of these guys up before summer starts!
Nice if true! This might make me consider the X220.
Man, I hate you Lenovo....(rushes to save up for an x220 now) lol.
If this pans out to be true, it'll make the X220 a virtually perfect machine, I'd say
I can't wait to see if this speculation holds. Hurry up Lenovo!
Reply 6 : X220 will have 1600x900 IPS panel option!!
Hmmmm. If this is true, and if that panel can live on until I can get me some quad core X series goodness - perhaps with the X221 - my next laptop purchase will be a no-brainer.
Reply 7 : X220 will have 1600x900 IPS panel option!!
Holy crap! I should have waited for 6 months. got my x201 in Sep and look what I'm missing...!
anyways, I'm starting to wonder how the x series will look 5 years from now - that's when I'm getting my next one.
